Why Choose Us?

Our story:

Hana May, a formerly Wild Arizona Donkey (in the wild known as a Burro) and her herd of Alpaca, are the reason this exquisite fiber exists. Her adoption from the Bureau of Land Management Wild Horse and Burro Program, spearheaded the rehabilitation and adoption into happy forever homes of over 300 previously wild burros and their offspring.

While these adoptions were taking place, her herd of Suri Alpaca yielded five years worth of heavenly fiber. And here is the resulting product.

Only the very finest of this fiber has been superbly hand blended with fine wools and silks, to create a heirloom quality product that suits any number of lovingly curated items.

Hand colored, blended, small batch artisan yarn that’s both timeless and fashionable.

Best of all with every skein of yarn purchased, you’re helping to rescue and rehabilitate donkeys all over the Continental USA by supporting numerous donkey rescue centers.

10% of the sale price of this yarn is returned back to donkey rescue to continue the work. Every week of the year, hundreds of Donkeys find themselves in dire need of help. Thank you for helping us to help them.

I am thrilled with my yarn. I love silk blends with alpaca or merino. This yarn is truly luxurious. I am very texture motivated and while very soft, this yarn also has that alpaca structure.

I also have a long history with the donkey/burro rescue owner and can vouch that the animals they save get the best gentling and homes out there.

It’s a bonus to get this lovely yarn and help with the rescue!

My name is Nicki. For 5 years I ran Burro Basecamp on the beautiful high desert terrain of central Colorado. My small Alpaca herd were guarded and guided by Hana May my BLM Burro. Now it's time to bring it full circle and allow this remarkably beautiful product that I've brought to fruition, to help burros in need across the country with funds from your purchase. Burro Basecamp is still saving and adopting burros in Colorado.
